CEA Beauceville "The « Sextos "

The « Sextos » is a really interesting topic but just a little part of the population talk about it. I think it’s very important; we should do something about it.

So first, this phenomenon aims at increasing one’s self-esteem, and it’s not a good thing. In Montreal, a young girl has sent a « Sextos », a picture of herself naked with her cell phone, to her friend and as a result, 50% of the students of her school had seen this picture. After, she published on her Facebook page that she would suicide. She was really humiliated. Then the students of her school bullied her, they told her that she was a whore and a bitch. Her parents called the police and the boy who sent the picture was forced to stay home for 1month, but unfortunately he was not accused of any felony.

Furthermore, the « Sextos » are sometimes a form of threat. In some cases, a boy tells to his girlfriend to take a picture of her naked with her cell phone, and to send it to him. The girl in the current case was scared that if she wouldn’t do it, her boyfriend would stop talking to her. So she did what he asked her to do, because she was afraid. It’s a form of rape. If she doesn’t want to do it, he can force her to abusing her mentally. This phenomenon also happens because girls want everyone to tell them that they are pretty and sexy. But it’s not what happens. Young teenagers tend more to condemn such a behaviour calling the victim a whore instead of complimenting her.

Finally, the students who shared that picture with everyone at their school afterwards, had problems too. They wanted more attention. This matter is very important and we have to talk more about it. The majority of the young people who participated in this matter have serious problems of attention.

In conclusion, my opinion about this issue is that young people who have problems of attention are easy to notice, so the school psychologist, parents or teachers can do something to help with their problems. It’s not difficult and maybe this phenomenon of « Sextos » will become less and less important with time and care.
